RSS(Real Simple Syndication)-- EXPLAINED In Plain English

RSS(Real Simple Syndication) is the talk around the net these days because of its many benefits.

I'm sure you've received several emails(like I have) telling you to jump on the "RSS" band wagon and that it's the answer to all your Internet and Email marketing woe's because of its syndication capabilities.

With RSS Directories and Search Engines coming into the mix as well these days for RSS feeds you really have to decide whether or not you really want it get in on the "RSS" craze.

Now, before I get to far ahead of myself here I want to make sure you know exactly what RSS "IS" and WHY it's becoming such an essential tool for Your online business and other businesses around the world.

I've received a lot of feedback from people just starting out online and/or other webmasters who are not quite sure asking... "what is "RSS" in Plain English and do I need it for my online business?".

I wrote an article earlier this year stating the "10 MOST Powerful Reasons WHY You Should Be Using RSS", but I guess I clearly didn't explain what "RSS" IS which left the readers kind of stumped.

If you wish to read that article as well I've provided the link below.

With that said, lets 'Now' define what RSS(Real Simple
Syndication) "IS" in plain english for those of you who are NEW to it and for those of you who are still a little bit confused about it and its uses.

RSS is by definition -- an acronym for "Really Simple Syndication" or "Rich Site Summary", and the .XML extension is the format used for distributing YOUR news headlines via the Web, which is known as "Syndication".

"Syndication" is where the TRUE power of RSS is unleashed, getting your message or information across the web in an INSTANT to websites, your subscribers and/or readers.

Now, to put this in plain english, "RSS" is simply a technology that distributes YOUR information(whatever it might be -- ex. Articles, Special Offers, Product Reviews, Resource Announcements) by syndicating it across the net.

It's that simple.

It doesn't have to get any more complex then that.

The more websites, subscribers and/or readers that opt-in to your RSS feeds, the more FREE targeted TRAFFIC you'll receive from their websites.

How can you take advantage of this NEW technology...
Starting Today?

Set up a BLOG!

Blog's are great because they are "RSS" ready.

If you don't know what a "BLOG" is here's a link to another earlier article I wrote that explains BLOGS in full detail since the nature of this article is to make sure you understand what "RSS" IS.

Here's the link:

You can set-up a Free BLOG account through Blogger.com -- http://www.blogger.com -- and begin posting to it within minutes.

All you have to supply is the 'Content'.

Well, there you have it, "RSS(Real Simple Syndication)-- EXPLAINED In Plain English".

I truly hope this article cleared up any confusion you might of had about "RSS" and will help you take that next step to deciding whether or not "RSS" is for You and your business.

My final thoughts are, don't be afraid to do a little research, you'll be amazed at what you might find if you spend a little looking for it on the net.

It's Not Enough to Blog

Okay, so you are sold on the idea of the benefits of a weblog with regards to the search engine optimization of your website. But honey, you ain't seen nothin' yet!
A properly created weblog will do the following for your website: (a) add rich content; (b) add interactivity in the form of user ability to post comments; and (c) if properly set up, can automatically ping major search engines when new posts are made. This results in more frequent spidering of your website by the major search engines, with the fresh content being picked up quickly and increasing your site's ranking.

But to really see an impact, more is needed. First of all, be sure to set up your weblog with an XML site feed, allowing for the easy syndication of your blog's content to third party websites - which in turn generates numerous inbound links to your website, all them relevant to your site's content, which vastly improves your link popularity.

Then, if you want to make a real splash, submit your articles manually to article submission sites - respected ones - which are easy to find by doing a simple search on the net. Finally, be sure to use your keyphrases, as in this case, search engine optimization, in your article. Update as frequently as possible, and submit to the article submission sites, and don't forget to ping the RSS feed directories.

Catapult Your Traffic With These Web Site Add-Ons

Having a website is great but, if the site doesn't have any traffic, then what good is it really doing for you? Here are some features that you can add to your site to generate more traffic and more stickiness for your site. Copyright 2005 Ron Gibson.

1. You should add a blog to your website. Blogs are a fast and easy way to add content to your site. Why is that important? Search engines love content. A frequently updated blog will attract the search engine spiders and will get your site indexed quickly. You should try to post blog entries at least a couple of times per day.

2. Add a message board to your web site. This helps your site to develop its own little community. People will visit your web site to ask questions and answer other people's questions.

3. Add a directory of web site links to your web site.
People will visit your web site to find related web site links for the topic they're interested in. As an added bonus, links are also content for search engine spiders.

4. Add an article section to your web site. People will visit your web site to read and learn new info related to their interests. And this also will provide content for the search engines.

5. Add an archive of past e-zine issues to your web site.
People will visit your web site to read past issues of your e-zine that they've missed.

6. People love freebies. You should add a f.ree software download page to your web site. People will visit your web site to find new software that will make their life easier.
Also add a free ebook directory to your web site. People will visit your site to download, study and read new information.

7. Add a free classified ad section. People will visit your web site to place their own free classified ad and to read other offers.

8. Add a free link page to your web site. People will visit your web site to place their own link and to look at other people's links. This is a double bonus. Not only will you get traffic from the links, but, once again, links are also content that search engines love.

9. Add an "about us" page to your web site. People will visit your web site to read about your business and yourself.

10. Add a guest book to your web site. People will visit your web site to leave their opinions about your business and to list their signature file.

Using the above methods to add features to your website will not only draw more traffic to your site, but they will also make your visitors want to stay on your site longer and want to come back and visit again and again.

It's All in the Title

I receive over 40 articles per day from individuals who would like me to republish their article. When I was in law school, I was told that when sending in a resume, the average time spent reading the resume is 7 seconds, due to the volume of resumes received. I have found that to be true with articles as well.
Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world. You may be the most intelligent writer in the world, and have breaking information, which, if people actually read it, would benefit them and their business.

Problem: most, if not all, publishers of articles don't have the time to read the whole article unless they are "captured" within 7 seconds. So that tells us that, when submitting your articles to newsfeed services, publishers, bloggers, and the like, you have about 7 seconds to capture their attention (and I personally believe that is a liberal amount of time - my experience tells me more like two seconds).

Example: An excellent article was written just today, if you read the content of it. But the title almost instantly created a "deletion response" from me.

Titles must be captivating, yet relevant as well to the content of the article. Major mistake would be to post an article with a title that has nothing to do with the content - but that is a completely different discussion.

In summation, please spend time on an effective title - and that will get your article read and spread across the Internet.
