It's
easy to design a web site. A teenager could do it. For
that matter, a preteen could do it. There's nothing
hard about throwing together some content in an HTML
editor and publishing it to the web.
One of
the biggest misunderstandings that the public has about
search engine optimization, however, is that because
a person is able to design a web site, they are able
to optimize it for search engines. This could not be
a more fundamentally unsound assumption.
The ability
to design a web site is no more related to search engine
optimization than the ability to frame a house is related
to the ability to be the architect or engineer of that
house. They are completely and altogether different
fields.
Do not
assume that your webmaster or IT team can develop your
Internet presence with the search engines in mind, even
if they tell you that they can. Search engine friendly
web development is quite complex and involves so much
more than meta tags or keyphrase density.
